Tour Details
Located in Alexandria, Virginia, the Covanta award-winning Waste-to-Energy Facility serves the approximately 400,000 residents of the County of Arlington and the City of Alexandria with reliable and sustainable waste management.
Our tour host, Covanta, in addition to keeping waste out of landfills, is committed to ensuring safe operations and minimizing environmental impacts. Covanta has been consistently recognized for exceptional operations, including OSHA’s stringent Voluntary Protection Program Star certification.
Schedule (this is an in-person event only)
11:00am - 12:00pm: Tour of Covanta Waste-to-Energy Facility
After tour ends, lunch at a local restaurant (to be decided) at attendee's expense.
Note: All visitors must wear long pants, long sleeved shirts, and sturdy shoes (no flip flops, heels, or open toes, etc.). Visitors must be able to ascend and descend several sets of stairs during the tour.
Commuting/Parking: Parking is very limited so please carpool/ride share/Metro as much as possible. The Van Dorn Station is across the street from the facility.
Registration Information
This event is only open to current Potomac AIHA members. It is free. The tour size is limited, however. We encourage you to register early and if the tour is full, please add yourself to the waitlist.

Potomac Local Section Board Nominations for 2023-24 Elections
Please nominate yourself or suggest a worthy candidate for the 2023-24 year. We will need to fill the following positions:
- President-elect (will also serve as President in 2024-25)
- Secretary-elect (will also serve as Secretary in 2024-25)
- At-Large Director, 2 openings, (will serve for two years 2023-25)
